Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) is now offering in-office echocardiograms at the Northside and Stemmer offices. The two locations will alternate Thursday appointment dates with patients being scheduled at 45-minute intervals.
Echocardiographs, or echos, are instruments that use reflected ultrasonic waves to show the structures and functioning of the heart. At GCS, echos are used to monitor patients’ cardiac function while taking certain chemotherapy. The most frequently used drugs that require this type of monitoring are doxorubicin and herceptin.
