Georgia Cancer Specialists’ physician J. Bancroft Lesesne were recognized as “Top Doctors” in the August 2001 issue of Atlanta Magazine. Dr. Lesesne was one of five physicians named for excellence in medical oncology. The magazine listed 280 physicians in 57 medical specialties.
Dr. Lesesne was selected by his physician peers in the Atlanta community that included Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties, according to Castle Connolly Medical Ltd, the survey company that conducted the research for a book they publish titled “Americas Top Doctors.”
“Castle Connolly’s team of physicians and researchers follows a rigorous screening process to select the nation’s top doctors,” according to the firm. “Using mail and telephone surveys, and electronic ballots, they ask area physicians to identify highly skilled, exceptional doctors. Careful screening of doctors’ educational and professional experience is essential before final selection is made among those physicians most highly regarded by their peers.”
Dr. Lesesne is the chief medical officer/vice president of GCS, with special interests in lung, prostate, colon cancers, and blood disorders. He serves on the board of directors of Northside Hospital and Northside Hospital-Cherokee, and is the former chief of staff of Northside Hospital.
In a related story in the same issue of Atlanta Magazine, a patient of GCS and GCS research development Mansoor Saleh were also featured. The story focused on how a cancer patient learned on television about “designer” drugs being researched by Dr. Saleh at GCS, which later led to the patient’s enrollment in a GCS clinical trial. The patient, who was fighting a recurrence of his cancer after a long remission, said that after a few weeks on the trial, he felt “strong enough to take a trip to the mountains.”
