Georgia Cancer Specialists physician Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah was featured as the cover story in the December 2003 issue of M.D. News Magazine in honor of her outstanding work in the field of oncology.
“It’s All in the Genes,” by Helen K. Kelley, discusses how Dr. Jay, as she is known by her patients and colleagues, has made it her life’s work to care for cancer patients. She also aids others in cancer prevention through the genetic risk assessment program, which identifies a “patient’s specific personal risk factors for developing cancer.” “I feel this is what I was born to do,” she says in the article.
The article also illustrates the personal care she provides. She gives her cell phone number to patients so she can be reached at any time and establishes relationships with their families. As she explains in the article, “I feel like you can’t take care of a patient without knowing their family.”
Dr. Jay has been honored numerous times for her work in oncology. She has received recognition as one of Atlanta and America’s top doctors of oncology by national publications such as Redbook Magazine and Ladies Home Journal. Dr. Jay also received the CEO Award for “Excellence in Customer Service” from DeKalb Regional Health Center, an award rarely given to non-employees of the Center. “I cannot imagine the day I won’t be able to do this anymore,” she says. “I hope it never comes.”
