The groundbreaking ceremony for Macon’s new cancer treatment center was held on February 13 at the campus of Coliseum Medical Center in Macon, Georgia.
Dr. Bruce Feinberg, CEO of Georgia Cancer Specialists, acted as the shovel-wielder at the ceremony. “Today marks the official start of a project that will improve cancer care in Macon and Middle Georgia,” said Dr. Feinberg. “Our vision is to create a comprehensive cancer treatment supercenter that meets the total needs of cancer patients in one location.”
The Middle Georgia Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care will offer many of the services associated with cancer treatment, including medical oncology, hematology, oncology radiation, and radiology, as well as dermatology services and a fully equipped pharmacy, all in one centralized location.
Georgia Cancer Specialists and Coliseum Radiation Partners—affiliated with Atlanta Oncology Associates —will be the oncology care providers at the center. Dermatologic Surgery Specialists will also offer services at the facility.
“We look forward to the close working relationship that the building will allow between multi-specialty groups,” said Dr. Dale McCord, President of Atlanta Oncology Associates. “It will improve our ability to provide quality cancer care to patients in Macon and Middle Georgia.”
The building will be a 36,000 square foot, two-story addition to an existing 10,000 square foot, one-story radiation oncology facility owned and operated by Coliseum Radiation Partners.
A collaborative effort— lead by Stegenga + Partners and including Levino Jones Medical Interiors, R.G. Scott & Associates, and Medical Management Associates, Inc.—created an atmosphere that would support, patients, family, and staff.
Williams & Associates and Warren-Hanks are the contractors selected to construct the center.
The center is expected to open for patient care in late November of this year.
