Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) Chief Medical Officer/Vice President Dr. Bancroft Lesesne has been named the next president of the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO), the Georgia chapter of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He assumed the position Saturday, September 18, at the GASCO meeting at the Westin Hotel in Buckhead.
Dr. Lesesne served as president-elect for the past year and replaces current president Charles Henderson of Peachtree Oncology/Hematology Consultants.
Dr. Lesesne serves on the board of directors of Northside Hospital and Northside Hospital-Cherokee, and is the former Chief of Staff of Northside Hospital. He has been with GCS since its inception in 1995.
Georgia Cancer Specialists, based in Atlanta, is the largest private oncology/hematology practice in the southeast, with 35 physicians and 23 offices throughout Atlanta and Macon.
According to the website, ASCO has more than 21,500 members from over 100 countries. ASCO’s membership is comprised of clinical oncologists representing all oncology disciplines and subspecialties; physicians and health-care professionals participating in approved oncology training programs; oncology nurses; and other health-care practitioners with a predominant interest in oncology. ASCO’s members specialize in all fields of oncology, including medical, hematology, therapeutic radiology, surgical, and pediatric.
