Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physician Dr. Cheryl Jones was featured in Central Georgia Health & Fitness magazine during the month of March. Dr. Jones was a part of an ongoing section in the publication titled “Ask the Doctor.” She was addressing the issue of colorectal cancer and the need for colonoscopies.
In the article, Dr. Jones stressed the importance of proper cancer screening, as colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both American men and women.
“Colorectal cancer is a common cancer. It affects 1 in 17 individuals over 50 years old,” Dr. Jones was quoted as saying. “Screenings make it possible to detect existing cancers at an early, treatable stage and to prevent the development of colorectal cancer.”
The article appeared as part of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, which is every March.
Dr. Jones practices comprehensive cancer care at the GCS Macon and Lake Oconee offices.
