Georgia Cancer Specialists physician Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah (Dr. Jay) was recently featured in the Metro Atlanta edition of M.D. News to discuss gene profiling assays currently available for breast cancer. Dr. Jay’s comments appeared in the “Physician’s Viewpoint” segment of the March 2007 issue.
“I was happy to participate in this story,” Dr. Jay said. “It’s important to keep Georgia’s cancer community educated as cancer care evolves.”
In her comments, Dr. Jay highlighted the recently approved MammaPrint genetic test and the currently used Oncotype DX test–– tests that aim to determine the likelihood of recurrence in a distant site in women who have Stage I and II breast cancers.
According to Dr. Jay, “both these tests and other similar gene profiling assays will hopefully avoid toxic therapies in the low-risk subset of patients and help provide more aggressive and directed therapies for high-risk patients.”
Dr. Jay is board certified in oncology and hematology, with a special interest in breast cancer. She was a cover story feature on M.D. News’ December 2003 issue.
She currently practices at the GCS Stemmer, DeKalb, and Johns Creek offices.
