Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) nurse Maxine Follmer, RN, BSN, OCN, was recently named one of ten finalists for the 2007 AJC Nursing Excellence Awards.
“It’s wonderful for one of our nurses to receive such recognition,” said Dr. Bruce Feinberg, GCS president and CEO. “Our nurses play a vital role in providing Georgia’s cancer patients with the best healthcare possible.”
Of the ten finalists, three will be chosen as top honorees at the Nursing Excellence Awards Banquet, presented by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ajcjobs. This year’s banquet will be held on Wednesday, May 9, at the new North Tower of the Omni Hotel in Downtown Atlanta.
“I’m honored to be nominated for such a prestigious award,” said Maxine, who has been at the GCS Northside office since 2002. “I truly believe that nursing was a calling from God and this ministry is what I am meant to do.”
According to the AJC web site, nominations are submitted by patients, patients’ families, and/or coworkers to recognize those nurses who went “above and beyond the call of duty.”
