Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) – the largest private medical oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast – continues to grow and expand its services with the addition of Dr. Jorge Leguizamo to its Eastside (1800 Tree Lane, Suite 180, Snellville; 770-979-4177) and Gwinnett (698 Duluth Highway, Suite 201, Lawrenceville; 770-822-0788) offices.
Dr. Leguizamo joins Dr. Victoria Afshani at the Eastside office. GCS now has 39 physicians and 28 offices across Metro Atlanta and North and Central Georgia.

Dr. Leguizamo comes to GCS from Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Prior to that, he worked at the Navy Medical Center-Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia. He is also a military veteran, having served in the 7th Communications Battalion, III MEF, United States Marine Corp, in Okinawa, Japan.
Dr. Leguizamo is board certified in internal medicine, oncology, and hematology. His special interests include clinical trials and oncology research. He has been published several times and given many presentations on topics such as a phase I pharmacologic and pharmacogenetic trial of sequential 24-hour infusion of irinotecan followed by leucovorin and a 48-hour infusion of fluorouracil in adult patients with solid tumors, a phase I study of 9-aminocamptothecin as a colloidal dispersion formulation given as a fortnightly 72-h infusion, and hypothyroid macrocytic anemia.
Dr. Leguizamo is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
