The nursing staff at the Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) office in Milledgeville has recently become an integral part of a wellness program for cancer patients conducted by Georgia College and State University (GCSU).
Dawn Key, MSN, FNP, spoke to the group last week, discussing the importance of regularly checking labs, interpreting lab results, and the effects chemotherapy can have on a patient’s lab results. Debbie Walker, RN, also spoke several months ago on the chemotherapy experience overall and the management of side effects. The group at GCSU regularly asks GCS staff to present on topics of interest to the participants of the wellness program.
“This is just one of the many ways we are engaging ourselves in our home communities. It is worth it when you see the level of satisfaction held by the group.” Said Key.
