Georgia Cancer Specialists physician Dr. Cheryl Jones participated in a national Radio Media Tour on Thursday, November 29 to discuss advances in breast cancer treatment. The 11 interviews focused on treatments for postmenopausal women with advanced HR+/HER2-negative breast cancer, specifically the newly approved drug, Afinitor.
The FDA approved Afinitor on July 20, marking the first time in the past 15 years a new treatment had been approved for women with advanced HR+/HER2-negative breast cancer. Approved in combination with exemestane after failure of treatment with letrozole or anastrozole, Afinitor is the first and only treatment that boosts the effectiveness of endocrine therapy and offers a new approach to treating women who have advanced HR+/HER2-negative breast cancer.
