The Northside Hospital Cancer Institute at Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) in Decatur is pleased to announce that Dr. Kathleen Lambert has completed the required specialized training to oversee the treatment of GCS patients on clinical trials.
In 2012, GCS affiliated with the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, redefining cancer care. This partnership set a new national standard by creating a model of best practices; promoting general health, prevention and survivorship opportunities for patients; and increasing access to the evolving science of personalized medicine through clinical research trials. GCS’s 46 physicians provide care in 27 Northside Hospital Cancer Institute locations across Metro Atlanta, North and Central Georgia, through approximately 160,000 annual patient visits.
“Georgia Cancer Specialists and Northside Hospital have a strong commitment to research and cutting edge clinical trials, targeting all types of cancer,” said Dr. Lambert. “I look forward to working with the research team toward a future without cancer.”
Dr. Lambert joined Georgia Cancer Specialists in 2013. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She went on to complete her internal medicine residency, followed by an oncology and hematology fellowship, at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Lambert was an attending physician at Duke for four years, prior to joining Georgia Cancer Specialists. While at Duke, she focused on hematologic malignancies (blood disorders), with a particular interest in multiple myeloma.
Before joining the research team, Dr. Lambert completed nationally recognized Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) courses in research design, data collection and analysis, along with comprehensive training and documentation audits from GCS’ own internal regulatory department. She will begin seeing research patients at the Stemmer Building research site in Decatur. She also practices at the Rockdale clinic in Conyers.
The Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is a regional and national leader in the treatment of cancer. With an extraordinary network of physicians and health care providers, the hospital diagnoses and treats more cancer cases and offers more cancer centers than anyone else in the Southeast. Northside is the only Atlanta hospital chosen by the National Cancer Institute to be a Community Cancer Center, which gives patients access to the latest cancer research and treatments.
