Since his first lab experience in college, when he came into contact with cancer research, Dr. Aaron Schueneman knew he wanted to dedicate his life to cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment.
This month, he joined Georgia Cancer Specialists, the comprehensive cancer care leader in the state at its Blue Ridge and Blairsville offices.
“We are very excited to welcome Dr.Schueneman to our practice,” said Dr. Al Soltan, president of Georgia Cancer Specialists. “We are adding his expertise and enhancing medical oncology and hematology services in a convenient, community-based setting.”
Dr. Schueneman is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, with a special interest in cancer immunotherapy and early phase clinical research trials. Prior to joining Georgia Cancer Specialists, Dr. Schueneman was actively involved in research at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
“While some cancers are curable or very treatable with today’s approaches, many others are challenging to control,” said Dr. Schueneman. “Fortunately, the pace of medical research in both hematology and oncology is swift, and it is my privilege to be in a position to be able to bring the latest and best treatments to our cancer patients.”
He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Association of Cancer Research. Dr. Schueneman obtained his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander in the medical corps.
