Dr. Jay Recently Featured as Guest Speaker on Women’s Health Awareness Breast Cancer Panel Discussion
Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah (Dr. Jay) of Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) — the largest private oncology/hematology practice in the Southeast — recently served as the featured guest speaker for the Women’s Health Awareness Breast Cancer Panel Discussion presented by the Atlanta Women’s Network Group and the Atlanta Metropolitan Diversity Council.
The event was held Thursday, October 15 at IBM’s Hillside Auditorium.
“Educating women about breast cancer is so important,” said Dr. Jay. “I always feel fulfilled after participating in an event like this, knowing that the heightened awareness a woman can walk away with could cause her to get a life-saving mammogram, or to encourage a friend or relative to do so.”
After Dr. Jay’s speech, a panel discussion led by breast cancer survivor and former IBM executive Denise Billups addressed proactive solutions to preventing and coping with breast cancer. Panelist Dr. Heather Richardson, a Piedmont Hospital surgeon specializing in breast procedures, contributed information about surgical procedures available to women dealing with the disease. Licensed professional counselor Dr. Tori Griffin provided insights into dealing with the emotional effects of breast cancer in healthy ways. Susan G. Komen representative and three-time breast cancer survivor Belinda Johnson and IBM employee Marina Adler shared the highlights and low points of their personal journeys through the disease.
Dr. Jay’s special interests include lymphoma, blood disorders, clinical research, breast cancer, and genetics. She completed her fellowship at Emory University and has received Top Doctor recognition from Atlanta magazine, Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors, Redbook magazine, and other publications.
Dr. Jay currently practices at the GCS Stemmer office in Decatur and leads the Clinical Trials, Genetics, and Cancer Committee at DeKalb Medical.
