The physicians and staff at the GCS-Macon Coliseum, GCS-Milledgeville, and GCS-Hawkinsville offices fully embraced the task of raising funds and awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. In addition to participating in Macon’s annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, GCS was represented by Dr. Raj Gupta’s attendance at the Survivors in Pink event. Also, Drs. Cheryl Jones and Ursula Reusch spoke about breast health at local events.
Through fundraising efforts and donations, GCS raised $2,100 toward the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. About a dozen GCS employees participated in this year’s Macon-area Race for the Cure, an event that has become a tradition for the GCS-Macon Coliseum office. Clinic staff was joined by friends and family members to bring the GCS team total to about 30.
Dr. Jones said, “Race for the Cure supports such a strong foundation, and our office is proud to offer support each year. As a past member of the Central Georgia Komen board of directors, Race for the Cure holds a special place in my heart.”
Dr. Gupta represented the practice at an event called Survivors in Pink, held on the Georgia College and State University campus in Milledgeville. About 30 breast cancer survivors attended, and more than half had been treated at GCS.
Dr. Reusch – who offers comprehensive cancer care at both the GCS-Macon Coliseum and GCS-Hawkinsville offices – spoke about lymphoma at the Georgia Tumor Registrars’ Association’s annual meeting on October 18. The following day, Dr. Jones spoke at a Coliseum Lunch and Learn addressing frequently asked breast cancer questions.
Dr. Reusch said, “GCS is making great strides in cancer treatment across the board, and breast cancer treatment is certainly included on that list. Spreading the word about the advancements we’re making is always a pleasure.”
