October 3, 2011 (ATLANTA) — Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physician Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah, (Dr. Jay) is participating in several Breast Cancer fundraising and education events this month in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Sisters… By Choice, Inc. delivers breast cancer detection and treatment services to under-served and at-risk populations in the Atlanta area. Dr. Jay was present at their latest event – a free Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar – to speak on hereditary breast cancer on Saturday October 1st. The event was held at the City of Refuge and was attended by more than 100 breast cancer survivors.
Dr. Jay is also giving a talk regarding advances in breast cancer at the 17th Annual Pink Ribbons Fashion Show and Luncheon, held at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead on October 3. The Pink Ribbons event has raised more than $800,000 for breast cancer awareness to date, and is attended by more than 600 women.
Dr. Jay will be delivering a similar talk at the IBM women’s group regarding breast cancer and advances in treatment again on October 13.
“Education and early detection is key to saving lives. It is important to me to be an advocate for my patients in this way.” Dr Jay says of her participation in breast cancer awareness events.
Breast cancer is the second largest cause of cancer death among U.S. women, after lung cancer. It kills 500,000 people globally every year and is diagnosed in close to 1.3 million people around the world.
