Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah Wins Silver Award From Community Clinical Oncology Program

Jayanthi Srinivasiah (Dr. Jay), MDJanuary 11, 2012 (Atlanta) — Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physician Dr. Jayanthi Srinivasiah (Dr. Jay), received a Silver Award from the National Cancer Institute’s Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) for the number of patients enrolled in clinical trials.

Dr. Jay, who practices at the Stemmer Building and Johns Creek offices of GCS, will be honored at the CCOP board meeting on Jan. 26. 

The Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) of the National Cancer Institute is a nationwide network that ensures that cancer patients have access to medical care in their own communities. Through the CCOP network, community physicians work in conjunction with scientists to conduct clinical trials supported by the National Cancer Institute. 

A brief about Dr. Jay’s honor was published in the March issue of Atlanta Hospital News.

In addition to her most recent honor, Dr. Jay recently returned from India where she taught a three-day course in genetics and genomics at Kolar Medical College. The 30 participants included post-graduate students and professors at the medical school.

Dr. Jay is board certified in medical oncology and hematology. She completed her medical degree at Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India, and residencies at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. She completed a fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Jay’s areas of special interest include breast cancer, genetics, colon cancer, lung cancer, and benign hematology.

Dr. Jay is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the DeKalb County Medical Society. Dr. Jay chairs the Cancer Committee at DeKalb Medical, which includes the chairing of the Clinical Trials and Genetics Committees. She functions as an investigator with the Center for Oncology Research and Education (CORE). Dr. Jay currently serves on the GCS Board of Directors.
