April 16, 2012 (Atlanta) — Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) physicians Drs. Bancroft Lesesne and Jayanthi Srinivasiah (Dr. Jay), are among the city’s Top Physicians as listed in the March 2012 issue of Atlanta Hospital News.
Dr. Lesesne, president of Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS), sees targeted therapy and personalized medicine as the future of cancer treatment. These new methods, many of which are available through clinical trials at GCS, offer significant advances in cancer treatment.
Early chemotherapy, he says, was a ‘sledgehammer approach’ to treatment that has been replaced by more targeted efforts that better manage the disease with fewer side effects.
A leader in the city’s healthcare community, Dr. Lesesne serves as chairman of the Board of Directors of Northside Hospital and Northside Hospital-Cherokee and is the former chief of staff of Northside Hospital. He is also past president of the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Lesesne is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is board certified in oncology and internal medicine.
Known to her patients as Dr. Jay, Jayanthi Srinivasiah makes a point of getting to know each of her patients and their families and makes herself available to them whenever they need her, even sharing her cell phone number so they can contact her directly.
She works to educate people both in Georgia and her native India about cancer prevention, research, and new therapies. She speaks regularly at area churches and senior citizens groups in Atlanta and updates area physicians on new treatments for breast and women’s cancers. She is on the board of Be The Match Foundation to encourage bone marrow donations. In India, she speaks to women’s organizations and teaches courses in genetics and genomics in medical schools. She is also passionate about bringing clinical trials to the community to offer patients state-of-the-art and new therapies.
